7 More Tips For Safe Weight Loss
Obesity is a major health concern today. There are vast numbers of programs out there to help you lose weight and become fit. You have to decide which of those is legitimate and right for you and your needs. There are, however, just basic common sense suggestions that will go a long way to help get you started on any weight loss and physical fitness regime. Here are a few more ideas:
1. Fried foods should be removed from your diet. There are many healthier ways of preparing your food besides frying. Besides the use of all that butter or oil, deep frying is responsible for the breakdown of fats into trans fats. It has only been recently that the true dangers of trans fats have come to light, yet they are real dangers to your health (and we'll talk about them in a future post). Think about that whenever you're ordering that supersized order of fries at McDonald's.
2. Do not skip meals. Often people think that in order to lose weight they have to stop eating. This could not be further from the truth. When your body is not being fed, it tends to go into starvation mode. This means that it hangs onto anything and everything that goes into your mouth, because it is not sure when it will be fueled again. Experts are recommending at least 4-5 small meals a day.
3. Choose a variety of foods from all of the food groups every day. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Make it colorful. Every color of produce offers its own type of nutrients. There are a number of grains to choose from. Fish oils help protect your heart. There are so many varieties of healthy foods to try that it is impossible to get bored.
4. If you are pressed for time, cook and freeze items in individual containers. Cut up veggies and keep them in stay fresh containers. Then when you need a quick snack, there they are. I love sweet carrots and fresh sugar snap peas. Both are able to curb my sweet tooth without all of the extra calories.
5. Cut out the alcohol. Alcohol is basically full of empty calories. Wine, in moderation, has been found to be healthy for you, but you can get those same health benefits by eating the grapes, without the added sugar.
6. I won't tell you to exercise, because you've already been told how important it is to exercise. I will tell you that it is best to find a pattern and type of exercise that suits you and your life. Involve the kids. Use things around your house as part of your training. Dance through the housecleaning. Take a class. Work what works best for you. The point is to start getting exercise into your life in any way, shape, or form.
7. Find an exercise buddy. Chances are that you know someone who has all good intentions to start a program of their own, but hasn't. Probably for the same reasons that you have put it off. It's always easier to work out with someone else; someone with the same goals. Even if by some remote chance that you don't know anyone else who is interested in the buddy system, get online and find a forum. Forums are great for getting in touch with others who feel just like you. You can share your joys and pain, your progress and your setbacks with others all over the world.
So go at your own pace and learn what works best for you. Keep coming back for more discussion on healthy weight loss.
